Thanksgiving 2025

27 November 2025: A very muted Thanksgiving, but nicer than I could have imagined even 24 hours ago. Erin, Eric, and the girls came over and we had the Alma Bea catering that I ordered back when we thought our parents would be with us, too. It was so good, but also sad that they weren't with us. 

But those kids? They make things better. (Jo helped, too.)

So thankful to have these four in my life and for the chance to spend the day with them.

The girls invited me to spend the night and watch Christmas movies with them, which delighted me. We watched Mickey's Christmas Carol, Frosty the Snowman, and Home Alone. Just a really lovely, cozy day.

700

25 November 2021: I am thankful on this Thanksgiving Day for 700 straight days of at least 10,000 steps. Spent the day with Erin, Eric, the girls, and Eric's dad and stepmom (and four (!) dogs). Lots to be grateful for. 

Thanksgiving 2020

26 November 2020: Quiet Thanksgiving meal at Erin and Eric's. Feel very blessed to have them and the girls close enough to celebrate safely. And very blessed that the weather was lovely and warm. Back home now with my three buddies, who are sleeping on the couch while I watch a rerun of Supermarket Sweep. Might go to bed by 10:00. It works. 

Also, Erin made this PillowVeronica, which is adorable, soft, and huggable. Two of those adjectives also apply to RealVeronica.

23 November 2017: "Give me a stack of 10,000 Bibles and I will swear it on them!" --my brother Christian, defending his dubious story about how Todd the Rabbit, who lived with us for years and years, came to be a part of the family. For the record, Christian swears a woman rang the doorbell and said, "There's a rabbit in your yard." Of course, he was working at a vet at the time, so the story is fishy...

Anyway, a nice holiday at my sister's house, especially when we found ourselves laughing about good times.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving 2012 was a good one! I had seven family members in town for the weekend and hosted dinner on Thursday.

Ready for Thanksgiving

 
Having just finished my grading (like 5 minutes ago!), I am now ready for the holiday. A special shout-out to Buffy, Season 5, which provided the background entertainment for much of my grading. In fact, I also just finished "The Gift," which still gets to me every time.

Anyway, here comes Thanksgiving. I am hosting this year, which is kind of exciting. Tomorrow I've got some cooking to start (my opa's famous cheesecake, for instance), some cleaning to finish (almost done!), and some last-minute shopping to do (beer for the adults and juice for the kids).

Maybe just a bit of chair-dancing to celebrate knocking out one substantial "to do" list of work-related tasks for the break. This will do...
