she did to you when she got the chance.’” --the main character in Mary Lavin's "In the Middle of the Fields," almost at the very end of the piece.
Finally got around to
listening to this story this evening, finishing it up on a drive I took just because. It's such a smart meditation on love, loss, and grief.
